From the draft to the flag
What we need for perfect printing.
Information about artwork, hardware/software and conditions for the printing process.
Line and halftone prints are done by means of the screen printing process. With digital chemical dye printing (DCD Technology) small quantities can be realized within short periods.
Large format advertisements for individual applications are realized with digital pigment dye printing (DPD Technology).
To ensure the best quality for your prints, we ask you to consider the following notes:
Which programmes can you use?
The following Apple Macintosh or Windows programmes can be used:
- Freehand
- Corel Draw
- PhotoShop
- Adobe Illustrator
We always use the most current editions of the programmes.
How do you transfer the data to AWAG?
Please provide us with your data by means of one of these options:
- Zipdisk 100 MB
- DVD
- via email to fahnen@awag.de
Please don’t forget to send us the form „attachment to file“. If you don’t have this form, please call us and we will immediately provide you with one.
Please read the following instructions on formatting the files:
- do not use closed EPS files
- always start pixel files in CMYK mode
- create documents true to scale (e.g. 1:10 to final format)
- consider 10% addition to finish
- convert the font to curves or provide a font-file
- please add high resolution quality data to pixel files
- colours specified in RAL, HKS or Pantone
We will charge additional image editing separately after prior consultation.
Design service
You have only an idea?
If you cannot supply any files which are ready for printing, we will take over the design work and the production of the files necessary for the printing process at cost price. The following patterns are possible:
· final artwork
· business card
· rough drawing
· film
· sample flag together with the patterns mentioned above etc.
Please provide final artworks and films up to the size of DIN A3 (optimal with1:10 scale). Before starting the actual printing, you will receive a proof print with the illustration true to scale.
Half-tone image in screen printing
We deliver colourful half-tone prints and attractive flows for your decorative image or message.
We will realize the following screen rulings:
· digital chemical dye printing:
- 4/6/8/10 dots per cm/ppcm (10/15/20/25 dots per inch/dpi)
- gradation screens are depicted in screen printing between 8 and 100 % due to tone value increase
· table banner:
- 22 dots per cm/ppcm (54 dots per inch/dpi)
We require an authentic pattern (proof) for printing.
The following patterns are scanned at cost price:
· Slides (after suitability test)
· reflective originals (no printed patterns)
Due to the print process and different material properties, the print result may differ from the proof.
Because of this, we strongly recommend an actual pre-production sample in case of large scale orders. We are sorry not to accept variations in colour as a reason for rejection if you do not want a sample flag.
Please note the following to achieve a brilliant illustration:
· create pixel files on a scale of 1:10 with a scanning resolution of 300 dpi
· preferably colours according to Pantone U or HKS N
Since four-colour halftone prints are printed in CMYK mode, the perfect reproduction of defined colours (Pantone or HKS) is not always possible. Corresponding to the possibilities of four-colour printing an alternative, which is almost similar to the standard colour, is used.
For the illustration of background colours, logos and fonts up to 4 additional colours can be used in line print.
Little hints – great effect
Acuity in halftone screen printing
Small areas and writings that are not printed in full colour often have blurred outlines in standard halftoning.
We recommend that an additional colour is used to achieve a better quality.
Line weight in screen printing
If the lines are too thin or in serif fonts, the lines become blurred. This effect increases in negative fonts and lines. You can prevent this by choosing a minimum line weight of 1 mm in the original size or 0,1 mm in the1:10 scale.
You can make serif fonts “thicker” by adding an outline of the same colour.
Acuity in line printing
Due to the enlargement on the finished flag, line illustrations in TIFF format cause stair-stepping. Therefore we recommend to vectorize the illustration (e.g. with Adobe Streamline) before sending us the file.
DCD Technology
Digital chemical dye printing
With the digital chemical dye printing technology widths of 150 cm (material width up to 200 cm) and lengths of up to 15 m can be printed in very good quality.
This printing process is especially suitable for small quantities of flags within short periods.
The printing can be done at resolutions of
· 120 dots per cm/ppcm (300 dots per inch/dpi)
For printing pixel files we require a coloured pattern. Line drawings should be defined according to Pantone U or HKS N.
The following patterns are scanned at cost price:
· Slides (after suitability test)
· reflective originals (no printed patterns)
Please note the following with self-provided pixel files:
· create pixel files on a scale of 1:10 with 300 dpi scanning resolution
Since digital chemical dye printing is used in CMYK mode, the perfect reproduction of defined colours (Pantone or HKS) is not always possible. Corresponding to the possibilities of four-colour printing an alternative colour, which is almost similar to the standard colour, is determined.
DPD technology
Digital pigment dye printing
The UltraVu 5300 digital printing system is the state-of-the-art ink-jet printer for the production of large digital images. The light-fastness of the colours is reflected in the durability of 1.5 to 2 years.
By means of Piezo technology, the ink drops can be applied to a large variety of substrates. Printing is possible on widths up to 500 cm. By means of a high-frequency welding process, individual printed widths can be connected so that any final format is possible. This enables us to realise your ideas in XXL format.
By means of this technology up to 120 dots per cm/ppcm (300 dots per inch/dpi) can be fixed in the print substrate. The final resolution of the print, however, depends on the distance between the finished picture and the observer. The following distances should be realized with the corresponding print resolutions:
Distance Print resolution
30 cm up to 3 m 300 dpi
3 m up to 6 m 150 dpi
6 m up to 10 m 75 dpi
more than 10 m 50 dpi (30 dpi)
Depending on the final format of the prints the requirements on the pixel files and their scanning resolutions change. Please consider the following guidelines when determining the data volume:
Print format Data volume
4 - 10 m² 10 MB/m²
11 - 40 m² 4 MB/m²
41 - 80 m² 3 MB/m²
from 81 m² 2 MB/m²
The minimum file size must not exceed 40 MB.
Please design black scripts and fonts in the 4c modus:
C: 40%
Y: 40%
M: 40%
K: 100%
